Throat Cancer Symptoms




Throat cancer is more common among men than women. It is estimated that around 23,000 people are affected by throat cancer every year. There are main 2 tubes in our throat- the food pipe (esophagus) and the wind pipe. Throat cancer developed in the pharynx, the area that connects nasal cavity and mouth is more likely than cancer in the larynx, the voice box. Throat cancer can be a heredity disease. The larynx is present at the top of the wind pipe and contains two vocal cords which help producing different sounds for different people. Men having the age above 50 years and are habitual of smoking and drinking alcohol are more prone to throat cancer than others. Throat cancer is also known as vocal cord cancer or laryngeal cancer.

Throat cancer symptoms in the initial stages are very common such as sore throat, cough and hoarseness of voice like feeling same as that of in cold. There can be difficulty while swallowing food or in speaking. A lump may appear in the lymph glands. All these symptoms don.t go away easily. Chronic earaches may also be the problem. As the nerves of face are all attached to one another, infection in one part is bound with infection in other parts also.

Sores may appear on the tongue or in the mouth. All these symptoms are very common and does not prove that you are affected by throat cancer, but if these symptoms remain for a longer period you need to consult your doctor for throat cancer checkup. If throat cancer is diagnosed in the initial stage, then its treatment became much easier.

There can be trouble in breathing. Breathing may become laborious. There may be bad breathe. You may have frequent headaches and pain in the upper teeth. Bleeding from the nose can be seen as a consequence of throat cancer symptoms. Due to this throat cancer there can be swelling in the eyes. Eyesight may suffer. Sinuses may get blocked which will not go away easily.

Major throat cancer symptoms include paralysis or numbness of the facial muscles. Facial pain and neck pain are other main symptoms of the throat cancer. Blockage in the food pipe can be one of the major problems due to throat cancer, which may cause difficulty in eating. This difficulty in eating results in loss of appetite and unwanted loss of weight. As the tumor increases its size, the food start going in the wind pipe more frequently which results in heavy coughing or even vomiting. Sometimes blood in the sputum can be seen along with coughing.
