Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms
Pancreatic cancer is the tumor of the pancreas. Common pancreatic cancer symptoms are:
1. Growing pain in the upper abdomen or back or both together.
2. Loss of appetite, depression and low mood.
3. Lot of weight is lost suddenly. This cancer is common in cancers of the head of the pancreas.
4. Jaundice which is caused due to the obstruction of bile duct.
5. Blood clots are formed suddenly in the blood vessels or veins anywhere in the body.
6. Nausea.
Most of the symptoms of the pancreas vary according to the place where they are located in the pancreas, i.e. head, body or tail. The symptoms of pancreatic cancer according to the location are:
1. Loss of Weight: This pancreatic cancer symptom occurs when the pancreatic cancer is in the head of the pancreas. People suffering from pancreatic cancer may lose a lot of weight without any reason.
2. Pain in the stomach: A dull pain is felt and this is again one of the most common type of pancreatic cancer symptoms. The pain initially begins in the stomach and then spreads up to the back too. The pain becomes worse when a person lies down or eats and may feel better if the person sits forward. If the liver or pancreas gets enlarged, then a pan can also be felt in the abdomen. This symptom is common if the cancer is in the body or tail of the pancreas.
3. Jaundice: A person suffering from pancreatic cancer may also get jaundice in which the skin turns yellow and the eyes become white. The urine is darker than normal. As the tumor blocks the bile duct, this symptom is more common if the cancer is with the head of the pancreas. Due to the blockage of the bile duct, the bile gets into the bloodstream as the bile stops flowing in the intestines. Bile contains yellow pigments which causes jaundice i.e. yellowing of the skin.
There are certain non-specific pancreatic cancer symptoms. They are:
1. Most people suffering from pancreatic cancer may have diabetes. Due to diabetes enough insulin is not produced and there is too much of sugar in the blood. This sugar passes out of the body through urine. This might lead to thirst, lot of water passing through the urine, weakness, loss of weight, may feel dizzy or chilled and feel hungry.
2. Itching can also be caused due to the salts of the bile passing in the bloodstream.
3. Feeling sick due to inflamed pancreas is another symptom. Digested food may not be passed through the bowel due to the blockage of the duodenum.
4. Lot of bowel disturbances like passing of large fatty stools that are pale colored and smelly and diarrhea also occurs. This is due to the non absorption of food appropriately.
5. A person may have fever from time to time, due to jaundice or inflamed pancreas.
6. Digestive problems like stools different than usual, pale, bulky, sticky, and smelly and float in the toilet are also common. This type of pancreatic cancer symptom occurs when the cancer blocks the pancreatic juices flowing in the intestines.
