Bowel Cancer Symptoms

Bowel cancer is one of the most common types of cancers. Under a survey it is found that around 35,000 Americans suffer from bowel cancer every year. Best part of bowel cancer is that it can be cured if treated properly at an early stage. Early recognition of bowel cancer helps in curing it completely. People having age around 60 years are more prone to it, although it may happen at any stage.

Bowel cancer is also known as colorectal cancer. It is caused due to infection in your bowel (small and large) and rectum. Mainly it is due to obstruction in large bowel. If you are affected by bowel cancer, the growth of cells in the lining of the bowel becomes uncontrollable and abnormal. If bowel cancer symptoms are not recognized at an early stage then gradually your whole body can get affected by it. It is a slow growing process.

Bowel cancer symptoms can be silent or painless at first but may cause problems at an advanced stage. Following are some symptoms which are painless but are an important indicator of bowel cancer. There can be abnormal loss of weight and appetite. A lump may appear near the abdomen or rectum which may or may not cause pain. You may feel a persistent feeling of indigestion and abdominal discomfort.

The main bowel cancer symptom is bleeding from your back passage. Rashes may appear near the rectum. Due to this bleeding there can be shortage of red blood cells in your blood stream which may cause anemia. Red blood cells are the carrier of oxygen in your body. You may feel tired or breathless due to lack of these carriers of oxygen i.e. red blood cells.

Another important bowel cancer symptoms are change in your bowel routine. You may suffer from diarrhea or constipation. This may happen due to having an unbalanced diet- a diet which contains a huge amount of meat, animal protein and fat and is poor in fiber. If these changes remain for more than 4 weeks you should consult to your doctor.

Bowel cancer may be a genetic problem. Although these are the common symptoms which may or may not indicate bowel cancer, but the main symptom which is not so common is bowel obstruction. It is the main symptom of bowel cancer. Bowel obstruction is the blockage of the bowel due to growth of a tumor in the abdominal area. Bowel may be partly or wholly blocked. It may cause a large amount of vomiting also. If there are any signs of it, you should have an Occult blood test which is a minute blood test for blood in the stools. Although there are no scientific reasons for the development of bowel cancer cells, it may happen to anyone.
