Bone Cancer Symptoms

Bones are the most important part of our body. Bones provide structure and shape to our body. Bones help to protect the more fragile organs of the body. For example heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. Bones contain bone marrow which creates various blood cells. These blood cells are used to carry oxygen throughout the body. Muscles attached to the bones provide us the facility of standing, walking and moving. If there are no bones in our body, we were not being able to do all this. Cancer found in the cells which make up the bones is known as bone cancer. Bone cancer is more common in children and adolescents than the older people. In United States it is found that around 2,000 people are affected by bone cancer every year.

There are so many types of bone cancer depending upon the tissues or cells affected by it such as osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Ewing.s sarcoma, chordoma, fibro sarcoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma. After getting affected by bone cancer, the bones of the person either became misshaped or became so weak that he is not able to even stand up on its own. The growth of cells that make up the bones becomes uncontrollable.

Pain is the most common bone cancer symptom. In the initial stages, the pain is very negligible. The pain increases as the cancer grows deeper. The body gets easily tired.

Pain is usually more at nights. Bone cancer can affect any of your bones but it is most common in long bones of our arms and legs. Due to bone cancer there can be heavy weight loss for which no reason can be found. This unexplained weight loss is very dangerous for the health.

Loss of appetite can also be experienced as bone cancer symptoms. A lump may appear in the joints or the muscles surrounding the affected bones. Bones become so much weak that it may lead to fracture even just because of standing on the affected bone. Fracture may also be experienced just because of little trauma. Bone cancer may spread to other parts of the body easily.

Some other common bone cancer symptoms include night sweats, fatigue, fevers and chills. The duration for which symptoms will remain greatly depend upon the growth of the tumor. Symptoms may remain for weeks, months or even for many years.

Swelling in the joints or tenderness may be one of the important bone cancer symptoms. Bone cancer may also lead to anemia which is caused due to deficiency of iron in the body. If you notice any of the above mentioned symptoms within your body, consult to your physician as soon as possible.
